Whether you need some custom terrain for a playing field, a custom model for your D&D character, or even a cosplay component there are countless possibilities of what can be made.

At Twin Moons Studios we offer both SLA and FDM printing. SLA or “stereolithography” is more commonly known as Resin printing and creates your figures out of UV cured resin. FDM or “fused deposition modeling” uses plastic filament to create your models.

We typically recommend resin for smaller, more detailed works and FDM for larger pieces; however if you have any specific needs or concerns we are always available for consultations on how to give you the best results.

A 3D model file is imported into a program called a slicer. This program will “slice” the object into single layers and create “gcode” which  tells the printer where to move and controls parameters such as print speed and temperature. Once the Gcode is complete it is sent to the printer. The printer nozzle heats and melts the filament as it is pushed through the nozzle. The object is built layer by layer with each successive layer fusing on top of the one below until the 3D object is complete

The 3D Model is imported into a slicing program such as Chitubox. On the printer the work begins with a vat filled with a liquid photo-polymer resin. A platform lowers into the tank and a single layer of the design is traced by a UV laser. The liquid resin hardens into a solid (a process called “curing”) creating a single layer of the object. This process is repeated as the build platform rises layer by layer until the print is complete.
